Kalaari Capital profiles Robosoft Technologies

Kalaari Capital, one of the leading investment firms in India and an investor in Robosoft Technologies profiled us recently in their company blog.

Excerpts:

Robosoft came into being in 1996. Between then and 2008, we developed some great solutions for demanding clients, prominent among them being Apple and Apple’s partners in Europe, Japan and USA. Trust me: no client could be more demanding than Apple! Device drivers, games, video editing software, imaging software—we developed it all, to exacting global standards. Between 2001 and 2008, we were one of only eight companies in the world to be Apple certified Mac OS developers.

By 2008, we had acquired a solid grounding in every aspect of software development and in understanding the needs of the most perceptive tech users in the world. We were ready for the next leg of our journey. Until then we had been a B2B company. Now we wanted to start developing products for direct consumers. Also, we decided to transition from the desktop platform to the higher growth-higher margin mobile platform.

To intensify our focus and better position ourselves, we restructured. We spun off two companies—99Games, a start-up developing games for the mobile platform and selling these to users, and Global Delight, a company developing apps for Apple devices, also ascribing to the B2C model. Creating these standalone companies shows just how much potential we foresaw in the mobile platform.

We truly came into our own in the next few years. By 2011, a third of all the games available for the Mac platform were from Robosoft. Some of our runaway product successes are Boom—a system-wide audio enhancer for the Mac; Camera Plus—a powerful camera with unique features for the iPhone and iPad; and Game Your Video—a simple video maker on iOS.

It has been immensely satisfying to have received recognition for our work. Boom was released at the Macworld Expo 2011 in San Francisco and won the Macworld “Best of Show 2011” award. Also, Game Your Video won the “Best of Show 2012” award.
