Periscope ‘telecast’, Circa and Microsoft Build: latest news in tech & mobile

The lines between digital, mobile, technology and apps are blurring in today’s world. We at Robosoft are keen followers of developments in this arena. At the end of every week, we will share with you highlights of news items which caught our eye in this space.

Live telecast on…Periscope

The Mayweather-Pacquiao was billed as the fight of the century and generated a lot of buzz. An interesting development of the match was the attention garnered by the live streaming app, Periscope. Many of those watching the event at the venue decided to live stream the event on apps like Periscope. So a pay-per-view TV event became a free-to-view event (at least in parts) for some. Given Periscope’s influence in social media, it is natural that questions are being raised about the validity of such ‘live telecasts’. Many would have envisaged such use cases of live streaming apps but will content owners raise objections in the future? Consumers are likely to use such apps more in the future as it offers a lot more immersive experience than a selfie or a picture, of what is being seen. Either way, interesting times are ahead as the coming together of mobile app technology, broadband and a powerful consumer insight takes shape.

Circa looks for a buyer

Bite-sized news apps have been in the news for a while now – and they come in different shapes and sizes. Circa – one of the pioneers in this space, is seeking a buyer, says Fortune. Irrespective of the outcome, such apps do cater to a growing need to fight the information overload in our lives.

Microsoft Build: wooing developers

Among the many announcements at Build 2015 was one which was directed solely at developers. It was announced that developers can convert their iOS and Android apps and games to Windows 10, Microsoft’s next operating system that’s designed to run on Windows Phone, laptops and other devices. It is a significant step to woo developers into the Windows platform which hitherto has seen a relative shortage of apps and even missing its own version of some popular, mainstream apps.
