Pokemon Go & Prisma: secret to their phenomenal success
In a very short span of time, Pokémon Go and Prisma have captured an incredible amount of attention. A recent report in TechCrunch confirmed that Pokémon Go had more number of downloads during its first week on the App Store than any other app ever. Similarly, Prisma has been downloaded over 10.6 million times on iOS alone and over 400 million photos have been ‘prismed’ in the short time that it’s been available. Perhaps it’s the novelty of technologies, namely augmented reality and artificial intelligence, in play here that’s driving such great results for the developers involved.
Messenger reached the 1 billion mark
Messaging apps are on the rise. Facebook’s revelation last week about reaching a major milestone of 1 billion monthly active users is all but a confirmation of this growing trend. WhatsApp is another app that passed the 1 billion mark in February this year. The messaging apps are not just used for personal communication anymore but are also great tools in the hands of businesses to connect with their customers. Once the number of bots increases in Messenger, the number of users would escalate further.
Minor changes to Play Store algorithm
Google has introduced a new algorithm in its Play Store that will reduce the size of an app update by 50 percent. The Play Store would also display the actual storage space a whole app or an upgrade will take on your phone to prevent users from accidentally downloading files that are too big. The improved compression algorithm would help users who have limited storage on their device and also help in saving mobile data in future when you are on the go.
Duolingo launched Tinycards
The company behind Duolingo, one of the most popular educational apps for learning languages, has launched a new memorization app called Tinycards for iOS. It’s a flash card based app that features beautiful illustrations and animations on a multitude of topics such as languages, geography, human skeleton, wonders of the world, and more. It is still not clear whether the free app aimed at school kids would be available on Android or not.
