The lines between digital, mobile, technology and apps are blurring in today’s world. We at Robosoft are keen followers of developments in this arena. Here’s a quick summary of what’s buzzing:
Google launches 8 new app categories
Last week, Google launched 8 new app categories – ‘Dating’, ‘Beauty’, ‘Art & Design’, ‘Parenting’, ‘Auto & Vehicles’, ‘Food and Drinks’, ‘Events’ and ‘House & Home’ – in the Play Store. The addition of new categories and renaming of a few existing ones such as Maps and Navigation, which will now be known as ‘Transportation’ would help Google improve overall search experience in the Play Store. The company has also incorporated a ‘Family Library’ that lets up to six family members share purchases made on Google Play across Android devices.
From consoles to mobiles
In just a few weeks, Pokemon Go has managed to pull in millions of people unlocking a universe of possibilities for games. The games are now shifting from consoles to mobiles. Mobile game development companies have taken a quick note of this new trend that has enormous potential to bring in some steady revenues. Our Rohith Bhat, CEO of 99Games points out, “If you compare the total time spent playing a game versus all other apps on a user’s device in India, smartphone users spend 48% of their time on games.”
Latest technologies to rule the app store
Microsoft launched Pix, an intelligent camera app, for iOS devices. The app intended to be a substitute for the native iPhone camera app is based on artificial intelligence. Before taking a shot it analyzes the scenes and automatically tweaks essential parameters like exposure, white balance, ISO and contrast to get the best shots. Not long ago, another artificial intelligence based photo-editing app, Prisma rolled out on Android and iOS that got instant popularity. For their accuracy in delivering the finished photographs, both the artificial intelligence based apps have wowed the users with their performance. It seems novel technologies like augmented reality, virtual reality, bots and artificial intelligence are going to rule the app store in future.
A revamped Apple Store mobile app
According to a report in Bloomberg, Apple is planning to roll out a revamped version of Apple Store mobile app. The updated app is likely to make use of customer’s buying history to recommend further purchases. The new app will work on both iPhone and iPad and will have same basic features and interface. Based on the rumors, the revamped app can be available in just two weeks from now.
