Google Duo, Fabric, Twitter Moments and more: mobile buzz of the week

The lines between digital, mobile, technology and apps are blurring in today’s world. We at Robosoft are keen followers of developments in this arena. Here’s a quick summary of what’s buzzing:

Google Duo: simplicity at its best

Duo, introduced at the annual I/O developer conference a few months ago, is now available on both Android phones and iPhones. It’s a basic video-calling app designed solely for the mobile phones. The simplicity of Duo is quite refreshing and so are its features. The laser-focused app also features an incredibly interesting feature called ‘Knock Knock’ allowing you to see the live video from your caller even before you answer the call. Now, the question is whether the app will be able to entice users or not.

Former Facebook engineers launch Fabric

Former Facebook engineers, Arun Vijayvergiya and Nikolay Valtchanov, have released a new mobile app called Fabric. An app with a fresh idea, Fabric automatically collects your photos from Facebook, Instagram and phone’s camera roll, timestamps and plots them on a map showing you the places you have been to and who you have been with. It’s an impressive and incredibly powerful app that is likely to get popular with time. Fabric, is currently available only for iOS.

Twitter rolls out Moments

Twitter has rolled out another feature called ‘Moments’ in an attempt to boost engagement on its platform. The new feature, available only to a select group of celebrities and advertisers at first, would help them to collect and curate Tweets to tell stories in new ways. As mentioned by Twitter in their blog, the feature will roll out to everyone in the coming months.

Apple released 5th developer beta

Last week, Apple released the fifth developer beta for iOS 10, macOS Sierra, watchOS3, and tvOS 10. The fifth beta came just after a week the fourth beta was released. Over the beta testing period Apple is tweaking all the upcoming features that will be available to the public in the coming fall.
